This beautiful print is of a typical Hayward Brothers Coal Plate, located in Fournier Street, just off Brick Lane. It is roughly 150 years old.<\/p>
In old Victorian times the home owners had their coal delivered through this holes. This saved the coal men from carrying the heavy coal sacks too far and avoided the need for them to enter the houses. This holes are typically smaller than your average manholes and are easily missed when walking around those old streets.<\/p>
